As a fully accredited member of The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland, Billy has worked in the field of addiction and recovery for approximately five years.

In 2012, he received a 2-year diploma in Drugs Theory and Intervention Skills from Merchants Quay Ireland in affiliation with University College Dublin.  Prior to this, Billy obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology (with a particular emphasis on Social Policy) from Georgia State University in 2009.

He has significant experience working within the capacity of stabilisation/harm reduction as well as within the framework of drug-free and abstinence-based programmes. In addition to possessing a working knowledge of The Twelve Steps and acquiring a thorough understanding of the Minnesota Model of Recovery, Billy has extensive training and specialisation in such approaches as Motivational Enhancement Therapy, SMART Recovery, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Over the past several years, Billy has devoted a great deal of time and energy towards understanding and working with a myriad of people (from various demographics) who struggle with substance abuse and addiction issues. Billy brings with him considerable experience working within the field and in various companies (Kildare Counselling, Merchants Quay Ireland, Bray Community Addiction Team, and Tiglin) throughout Ireland.

Billy has a strong and fervent conviction in the significance of the work he does, and he has reaped great fulfilment in watching people change and transform their lives for the better as they realise the liberation of living a life free from addiction.
