Gary Thompson Registered Nurse, Specialist Community Practitioner Cert. (ENB 811 Community Psychiatric Nurse), Post Graduate Certificate in Management/Diploma in Management (MBA Linked Management Programme- Teeside University)
Gary has worked for over 44 years in the Health Sector specialising in Mental Health. Semi retired at age of 50 in 2010 he now works as a Lead Nurse, Addiction services for Smarmore Castle private clinic.
His career has included clinical person focussed care in mental health with Working age adult services, Challenging behaviour services, Child and Adolescent services, Generic community mental health, Older people’s services and more recently Safeguarding children and addictions.
Gary has also worked in a number of Health Service Management roles with specific focus on Operational management, projects, investigations, complaints, independent review of Nursing homes, planning and development of new build mental health units.
He is also a certified lead in the Total Quality Management approach based on the Virginia Mason principals and trained in the Colombo model which focuses on formulation approaches to challenging behaviours.
He also works as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission in the UK.
Specific experience, skills and knowledge has been developed while working in the roles of Community Psychiatric Nurse, Modern Matron, Locality Manager, Senior Nurse safeguarding children, Service Improvement and Senior Nurse manager/Clinician.
Gary has contributed to a Cochrane review and is passionate in supporting people with Alzheimer’s disease.
In his spare time he is a committed smallholder, small woods owner and enjoys walking.
